The Clearwater, Florida based quartet (originally a trio), consisted of: Art Whitney-Drums, Rick Amorose-Bass,(Floridians) Dwain Morris-Guitar/Vocals, (An Ohio Buckeye), Started approximately 1980, After only a few months of rehearsal "The Fanatics" Deciding to test the waters, were rather surprised at the response & increasing crowds to the music that included a few originals and a constellate of covers from bands such as the Cure, 999, Undertones, The Clash,Buzzcocks etc. The trio then added Kirk Sink Guitar/Vocals and more original songs were being written by both Dwain & Kirk. Immediately calls poured in from clubs & venues expressing extreme interest in them.
They played virtually everywhere in the Tampa Bay area gaining additional followers.
Before long they were opening for national acts including:
The Ramones, Gene Loves Jezebel, Thompson Twins, Modern English, Stray Cats, X and The Members; To name just a few.
They then ventured off on a modest tour along the east coast after releasing a video which guest starred Jonathan Le Bon (Brother of Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran.-Video can be viewed on "Pics" page) The Fanatics disbanded around 1987 due to baby fanatics and other state of affairs that cause boys to finally mature. Regrouping in 2006 they played a few gigs with an astronomical reception. And now plan to continue, considering the response. And who the hell does'nt like the 80's sound and memories.
They are currently working with a new addition (Chris Beach, see pics page for more info) in thier studio designed and built by Art Whitney, Owner & Operator of A-1 Custom Cabinets
Fanatics will be performing again soon with their signature powerful /original/ alternative sounds with some suprise sound changes. Stay tuned to this site for info on upcoming gigs.
Fanatics give thanks for all for the support they've encountered.
